overview

The Blocks (originally called Residential Sector 1 or RS-1) was a massive residential and farming sector originally designed to house up to 1 billion humans on Euphrosyne. The sector consists of 16 walled-off zones.

Before the Great War, trains were used almost exclusively for transportation within the sector. These trains connected directly to a central space station, which facilitated all transport on and off the planet. In the middle of the sector lies a long north-south area called the Central Artery. It was originally where the trains ran between the zones and straight to the Central Hub where the space station was located. Today, the Artery has been partially restored and repurposed by the Remnant factions, making it a highly contested zone in the ongoing Kalon-NEP conflict.

the Great War

During the nuclear bombardment of the Great War by the Vanguard space fleet, the Blocks were completely decimated, and the overwhelming majority of its massive population perished.

aftermath

Following the destruction, most of the desperate survivors fled the ruins and migrated toward the Sludge. Only a stubborn fraction of the population remained behind in the irradiated rubble; their descendants became the Remnant culture.

Today, only a few isolated high-rises still stand, surrounded by an endless sea of rubble and the decayed remnants of pre-war infrastructure. The ruins are currently inhabited by these Remnant groups, encompassing powerful factions like the Kalon Syndicate, The New Euphrosyne Project (NEP), and many other smaller factions.

banditry

The destroyed high-rises and dense urban ruins also make the Blocks highly susceptible to bandits, where snipers and gangs utilize the verticality of the environment to ambush travelers and rival factions from the rooftops.

trade routes

The various factions operating within the Blocks rely heavily on imports and exports to maintain their economies. There are three main trade directions leading out of the sector:

  • West: Routes lead to coastal settlements where the factions trade with The Black Pact, or they use their own shipping vessels to traverse the Vitriol Sea to reach coastal Clans, New Gorod, and the western lands of the Federation.
  • South: Railways and highways lead directly into the Sludge and the northern Clans. The Remnant factions sell drugs, biofuel, tech, filters, and food in exchange for leathers, meat, wood, and neurons.
  • East: Highways lead to Nomad settlements, who buy drugs (including a significant amount of alcohol), biofuel, filters, and food in exchange for neurons and various trade goods acquired from the Mechanics (such as advanced tech, vehicles, robotics, and weapons). Additionally, the highly dangerous East Wall Highway leads south to the eastern Federation lands, serving as an alternate route offering similar trade to the western routes.
