The Kalon-NEP conflict is an ongoing, fierce war for control over the Blocks between the region’s two major Remnant factions: the Kalon Syndicate and The New Euphrosyne Project (NEP).
the nature of the war
The conflict is less about massive pitched battles and more about a slow, grinding game of managing logistics. Both factions are constantly trying to defend their own chokepoints while simultaneously raiding and sabotaging the enemy’s logistics.
The frontlines and borders are highly volatile, often changing every week as railways get blown up, shipments are raided, and chokepoints fall. Adding to the chaos, smaller independent players and minor factions in the region will sometimes opportunistically turn on the larger factions.
the artery and life support
Both factions try to control their life support systems at all costs-specifically the export railways, highways, and docks. Because the Blocks is largely a ruined wasteland, exports and imports are the absolute backbone of their respective economies.
Central to this struggle is the Central Artery, the massive ancient pre-war railway system running north-south through the center of the sector. It has been partially restored and repurposed by the fighting factions to transport goods and troops, making it one of the most violently contested territories in the region.
outside perspectives
External factions, such as the Federation, view this conflict warily and refuse to take sides. They dislike the dangerous, cutthroat, criminal nature of the Kalon Syndicate, but are equally distrustful of the NEP due to its alliance with the universally despised HMC. The Federation’s ideal outcome would see both factions fracture, allowing a more democratic and peaceful power to emerge in their place.
