The fugue gift is an extremely rare and dangerous biological modification granted by the Tsiktral hive to its most loyal, intelligent followers. The hive does not hand this gift out lightly; it is only granted after years of absolute servitude. This often requires the follower to perform horrifying acts for Tsiktral, such as murdering their own family, just to prove their unwavering loyalty. Furthermore, Tsiktral only grants the gift based on the individual’s proven loyalty-meaning even if a person’s parents were devoted servants, the hive will not grant the gift to their child unless the child proves their own worth.
When Tsiktral deems a follower worthy, the gift is delivered via a single-purpose spawn known as a fugue spider, which pierces the target with a large stinger to infect them before immediately dying.
infection process
Following the injection, the victim undergoes an agonizing process spanning days to weeks, experiencing extreme pain, sickness, and occasionally developing physical mutations. Many do not survive the ordeal. However, those who do will develop neuron-like growths under their skin that connect directly to their brain.
abilities and autonomy
These growths grant the recipient - now referred to as one of “the Gifted” - the ability to manipulate and wield the anomaly. Crucially, unlike victims of the host disease, individuals who survive the fugue gift fully retain their personal autonomy and cognitive abilities. They are not controlled by Tsiktral in any way, acting entirely of their own free will.
Gifted individuals are extremely rare, with the highest concentration of them belonging to the Tsiktral-worshipping Bijou Clan.
