overview
The Clans represent a tribal, somewhat mutated culture that primarily inhabits the northeastern regions of the Sludge. While they operate under tribal structures, they are not nomadic. Instead, they are firmly settled and extensively utilize agriculture to sustain their large populations.
society
hierarchy and slavery
Clan society is highly hierarchical, with rigid social strata dictating an individual’s power and worth. Reflecting this harsh structure, slavery is extremely common across almost all of the clans, serving as a foundational element of their economy and daily life.
drug culture
The people of the Clans are often extreme drug junkies. The use of drugs is deeply central to their culture and spirituality. Drugs are used on a daily basis and heavily integrated into their sacred rituals. For instance, it is common practice to consume highly toxic feralite soot as a tea to induce heavy hallucinations during rites of passage and initiation ceremonies. In fact, a person’s status within a clan is often directly tied to their participation in and access to these drug rituals.
To support this massive demand, the clans purchase large quantities of drugs from Remnant factions, while also growing and producing significant amounts of their own.
accent
Clansfolk speak with a highly distinct accent.
politics and relations
The major clans are often busy bickering and fighting amongst themselves, creating a chaotic political landscape. However, they share a common dislike for the Federation’s expanding influence in their region. Despite heavily outnumbering the Federation forces, the Clans are unable to mount full-scale offensives due to the Federation’s superior, technologically advanced firepower. Instead, they frequently resort to illegal raids against Federation settlements and trade routes.
A notable exception to this hostility is the Aravi Clan, a smaller clan in the north that operates under the protection and integration of the Federation.
