FTL (faster-than-light) travel is achieved in the Metal Horizon universe through two primary methods: traditional advanced technology or by utilizing the anomaly.
technological FTL
Traditional technological FTL can be achieved either by using extremely powerful ships that can warp space-time directly, or by utilizing established wormhole gates that connect different star systems. For instance, there used to be a massive wormhole gate connecting the Aife system to the rest of the galaxy, but it was destroyed during The Great War.
anomalous FTL
The anomaly can also be manipulated to achieve FTL travel, though this method is highly unpredictable.
Tsiktral FTL
The parent hive of Tsiktral originally used anomalous FTL travel to spawn Tsiktral’s seed directly onto the surface of Euphrosyne in the 15th century.
human FTL
Human operators (such as the Gifted or manipulants) can also abuse the anomaly to achieve FTL travel. By utilizing neurons or the fugue gift, powerful operators can teleport themselves or even entire ships across space. However, this process carries massive risks - including inaccurate teleportation, partial teleportation (arriving with missing body parts), or sudden death.
limitations
Additionally, anomaly teleportation generally has a cap on how far objects can be moved; it is extremely rare or impossible to teleport anything outside of the Milky Way galaxy.
