The Euphrosyne Restoration Center (ERC) is an abandoned quarry enclosure used by the Hephaestus Mining Corporation (HMC) as a temporary holding facility for humans they capture.
hmc operations
Unlike many other factions, HMC does not typically execute humans upon capture unless deemed a combat necessity. Instead, captured humans are brought to the ERC.
Originally, HMC’s protocol dictated that these humans would eventually be returned to the residential sector RS-1 or WS-4. However, by the year 2603, HMC does not actually control the borders or walls of RS-1 - the area is largely controlled by various Remnant factions, including their allies, The New Euphrosyne Project (NEP).
Because HMC cannot safely deposit captives directly into RS-1 or WS-4, they hold them indefinitely at the ERC until the sector is “completely secured.”
rehabilitation procedure
While at the center, HMC subjects captives to a rehabilitation procedure. Because other methods are deemed illegal under old Protectorate law, HMC relies heavily on traditional propaganda, reeducation, and psychological methods to pacify the captives. Occasionally, an HMC convoy will deliver the loyal captives who have successfully passed this procedure to their allies in the NEP to act as new recruits. A notable survivor of this process is Veronika Doucham, who was captured during a raid on a Nomad settlement, processed at the ERC, and delivered to the NEP when she was 19.
