Before the Great War, the Protectorate utilized a fully electronic currency system, whereas the Vanguard relied on physical paper money and coins.
When the war reached its climax and nuclear bombs rained down on Euphrosyne, the planet’s server infrastructure was completely obliterated. This instantly wiped out the Protectorate’s electronic currency, leaving all Protectorate citizens equally impoverished overnight.
Because the Vanguard’s Yuan was physical, it survived the technological collapse. Left with no other viable economic standard, the surviving population simply began using the Vanguard’s physical coins and bills to facilitate trade, cementing the Yuan as the universal currency of the post-war world.
