Scavenger collars are bulky metal devices that have a complex history on Euphrosyne.
history
Before the Great War, these collars were placed on criminals who were permanently exiled to Waste Sector 4 (now known as the Sludge). The collars served as both a tracking device and a lethal deterrent, designed to detonate explosives if the exile attempted to leave the waste sector.
Over time, the exiles learned to hack and remove the collars. Many of them successfully repurposed the explosives contained within as weapons.
post-war significance
In the post-war era, these collars have evolved into a highly prized status symbol among the Scavengers. Being able to possess and wear one indicates that an individual can trace their roots in the Sludge all the way back to the original pre-war exiles of Waste Sector 4. They are often passed down through generations and worn daily by their owners to boldly display their high status and heritage.
